Senior Backend Engineer

You’ll own backend services end to end — from schema design through the API layer to the queues and jobs that keep client systems running after hours. Most of our engagement work is fixed-price and delivery-driven, so the role leans toward getting things production-correct the first time rather than iterating in a vacuum.

What you’ll do

• Design and build REST and event-driven APIs for client platforms spanning fintech, logistics, and internal enterprise tooling
• Own data modeling decisions — schema design, indexing, migrations — for systems that need to hold up under real transaction volume
• Write integration and load tests for the paths that actually break in production: payment webhooks, third-party API retries, background job failures
• Review pull requests from mid-level engineers and set the technical bar for a project
• Sit in client architecture calls and translate business requirements into a system design, not just a ticket list

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years building backend services in Node.js, Python, or a comparable stack, with at least one system you’ve operated in production under real load
• Strong SQL fundamentals — you can explain why a query is slow before you reach for an ORM debugger
• Experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) beyond “I deployed a container once”
• Comfort working directly with clients — explaining a technical tradeoff to a non-technical stakeholder is part of the job here, not an edge case
• Bonus: experience with message queues (SQS, RabbitMQ, Kafka), or prior work in a regulated industry (finance, healthcare)
